Councillor Pat Hynes (Independent), was elected Mayor of Loughrea at the town Council’s Annual General Meeting. A Native of Kilnadeema, he was first elected to Loughrea Town Council in 1979. He is also a member of Galway County Council. Speaking after his election, Mayor Hynes said that he would continue to be an advocate for the retention of two hundred beds at St Brendan’s Hospital, Loughrea, the construction of the Loughrea Bye-Pass Road, new industries and job creation, new swimming pool and Gaelscoil, for more local authority houses, carparks, the upgrading of the Loughrea Fire Service, the refurbishment of Loughrea Town Hall as a Multi Cultural Centre, Funding for the treatment of autism. Councillor Jimmy Curley, Fine Gael, is the new Deputy Mayor. |
